Despite the GFC (Global Financial Crisis) the developed countries are continuing to support assistance across the developing World. Australia has a good aid program especially in the Asia and the Pacific region where development initiatives ranging from infrastructure and financial sector reform to education and health sector programs across the region. Whilst it appears that it is never enough as an estimated 1.8 billion Asian people are living on less than $2 per day, one child in every 20 dying before the age of five, and rising food prices are putting pressure on the poor the work is continuing. Australia has benefitted significantly from the Asia’s growth, it has a real stake to ensure that effective development initiatives continue in the region.
