Latest projects completed in Australia have been in freight forwarding and customs broking, and in commercial landscape and property maintenance businesses. The client’s requirements were to review the business operations, develop strategies for growth and improve profitability. One business has a staff of 98 and revenue of $15 million, the other 26 staff with revenue of $48 million. It was found that both businesses had significant opportunities for improvement in cash flow management, reduction in cost of goods sold and adjusting the organisation structure to more accurately reflect the current business activities. Contrary to expectations, change management was easier to implement with the business with the larger staff numbers than the one with the smaller numbers. The reasons for the ease and the difficulty was common to both, that is, in one, we had a buy-in from management right from the start, in the other management were reluctant accept the process, this resulted in requiring more time to cover similar activities and extra meetings with the key staff. The other big difference related to keeping the staff informed and involved. Where the management kept the staff informed and involved, the changes were pretty easy. Where the management kept the staff informed and involved, the changes were pretty easy. Both companies made significant gains, especially managing their debtors and creditors, procurement changes are in progress and positive results have already been achieved in reducing cost of goods sold with a flow on effect direct to the bottom line.
